Michael's First Week

Well, I know he is already 5 weeks old but here is what we did his first week of life. Of course we had to go see his doctor to find out just how perfect he really is. She is so sweet and I am happy to know that she will be taking care of him for years to come. Then of course we went back home. For the most part Michael's days consist of sleeping and eating and then sometimes sitting in his chair with his eyes wide open. It seems that the more I try to have a schedule the more I realize that he just isn't into planning things right now. So much for my "to do" list. Right now it consists of trying to sleep when he decides to sleep and hoping that I can cook dinner before 8pm.
My mother was here for a week after Michael was born and I have to say that she was amazing. What a selfless person! She cooked and picked up and when Michael wanted to stay awake at 3 am, she lovingly took him and snuggled with him on the couch or in the rocker. Ah, the bliss of three hours of sleep IN A ROW!!
Add ImageBefore Momma left we took pictures to commemorate Michael's first week. What a miracle! I cannot begin to explain how sweet life is even if you never sleep again!

Baby is Here!

Well, actually baby has been here I just haven't had a chance to sit and blog about him. Michael Dean was born in June 22 weighing 6lb 4 oz and measuring 19 inches long. He was three weeks early. Here is his birthday story: Early Monday morning I started having contractions but they weren't anything unusual since I had been feeling that way all weekend. For some reason I decided to start timing them and writing them down. I started timing at 1:37 am and sure enough at 2:38 am my water broke! Thank goodness Derin and I are planners because our bags were already packed! The doctor said that I had time to shower and take it slow driving to the hospital. So I showered and then stood in the closet for five minutes trying to figure out what to wear. Who does that when they are in labor? Anyway, we arrived at the hospital around 4:45 and my contractions were about four minutes apart. I was in a lot of pain so I asked for an epidural. I was told I needed to have two bags of IV fluid first. I was 2 cm and then an hour later I was 3 cm. No biggie, labor was progressing as expected for a first delivery. Then about thrity mintues later I felt awful and started screaming. It took some time to get the nurse because of the shift change but when she came in I told her I had to push. She said it was too soon. I then asked her to check again and sure enough I was 9 1/2 cm. I asked for the epidural again but it was too late because I couldn't stand to sit still long enough to take it. It gets even better! My doctor was stuck in traffic. She was on the phone with my nurse telling her to keep me from pushing, seriously, how do you tell a woman in labor not to push? Next thing I knew, she literally came running into the labor room and forty minutes later we had Michael. He is perfect and so beautiful! Totally worth the au natural delivery. So here are our first pictures. We have so much more so stay tuned!
